The symmedia Hub is a platform for the mechanical engineering industry, addressing both, machine manufacturers and operators, including an embedded service suite for secure service processes. Manufacturers and operators of machine assets can be onboarded to the platform as participants who own their individual tenant with the ability to build relationships with other participants via services that are supplied by the provider.
These services can be broadly defined into the two groups, Connected Services and Unconnected Services.
• Unconnected Services: This category includes all services that are available to the participants without a real connection to a machine asset (e.g., via an edge device in the customer IT environment). Unconnected Services are related to machine assets that are virtually registered to the platform. One example of an Unconnected Service is service case management.
• Connected Services: This category includes all services that are only available to the participants if there is a real connection to a machine asset via an edge device in the customer IT environment. A bidirectional, secure communication between the platform and the edge device is used to extract data for analysis or monitoring purposes or to perform maintenance work. Remote support including tunneling is one of the main use cases.
